This ancient forest in Uganda’s mountainous south western corner boasts an impressive bio diversity with 350 bird species, 310 butterflies species, 200 tree species, 51 reptiles, 88 moths, and 120 mammals; including the rare and critically endangered mountain gorillas.

There are programmes in place to train the local people about the importance of the remaining forest remnants for the survival of the gorilla, and other species. This encourages them to become involved in the preservation of the forest as a resource for employment opportunities such as in tourism.
